One of our candidates, Ms.Xiao, recently participated in a group interview where four candidates, competing for the same position, formed a “Temporary Team” to solve a scenario-based task provided by the interviewers. Over the course of an hour, the team engaged in discussions, presented ideas, and reviewed PPT materials. During this time, the three interviewers present posed various challenging questions.
One of the difficulties in this type of interview is efficiently communicating with other candidates and influencing or helping one another in a short period of time. However, there’s no standard formula for handling this situation:
- Some individuals will demonstrate strong communication skills, diplomatically bringing team members together and becoming the team’s best adhesive;
- Others will show personal capabilities, standing out by seizing the opportunity to showcase their strengths while completing the task with the team;
- Some may show leadership skills, gaining the team’s recognition and becoming the leader everyone trusts.
Xiao received the highest praise in her interview feedback for her excellent communication skills and affability, which are key aspects of her personality. She felt accomplished by such feedback.
So, how would you handle a team collaboration interview where you’re competing with others? Feel free to leave a comment and share your thoughts!
